Star without land
Stjerne uden land. Roman Gyldendal 2008. Omslag: Ida Balslev-Olesen
On board a plane, middle-aged photographer Andreas is seated next to the young Rebecca. All of a sudden he begins to cry. The couple fall into conversation, he gives her his card and later she looks him up at his apartment. Here she meets Sophia.
Sophia knows Andreas, too, and sees a pattern emerging in his bizarre behaviour, the result of an urge to mould Rebecca into the image of his first wife, whose tragic early death has devastated him. It is a pattern she has seen before, in the case of Andreas’ ex-girlfriend, Vera, who ran off to Australia where she now lives under an assumed name, with a new identity. With Rebecca, too, things get out of hand.
Events take a dramatic and tragic turn, and Sophia must suddenly come to terms with herself in a new role.
